Six COVID-19 vaccine booster doses have been found to be safe and evoke a strong immune response in people who have already received two doses of AstraZeneca or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines in a study published in The Lancet.
Two doses of AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines have exhibited a 79% and 90% protection, respectively, against hospitalization and death after six months in various studies. However, protection decreases over time.
The new study assessed the safety, immune response and side effects of seven vaccines when used as a booster shot. The vaccines included AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Novavax, Janssen, Valneva, and Curevac. All seven vaccines were shown to be safe as third doses. All the vaccines were found to boost spike protein immunogenicity following two doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.
